The second night of rioting (August 9th) – how events developed

6.32 Riot vans at the mailbox
6.40 Bullring broken into
7.02 Riot police presence in Wolverhampton evident
7.11 Shop fronts smashed in Newhall Street
7.16 Reports of 200 people barging past passengers at New Street Station
7.20 Pallasades entrance to New St. & Livery St entrance to Snow Hill closed
7.25 Unrelated electrical fire in Harborne blockbuster
7.38 Fires reported at Moorstreet
7.52 Bullring made safe by police
7.55 WM Police arrest 3 people in the city centre
7.56 WM Police disperse mob in King’s Heath
8.05 Large groups reported in West Bromwich
8:06 Reports of a car on fire at Moorstreet
8.34 National Express say coaches will start to return to garages at 9:30pm
9.28 WM Police announce they have had 224 calls from the public this afternoon
9.31 Aston Expressway is all sealed up
9.36 WM Police announce they’ve made 170 arrests in last two days
10.22 Richer Sounds is looted
10.30 Reports of small damage to Iceland in Harborne
11.06 National Express announce suspension of all coaches into Birmingham

00.28 Firearm reportedly discharged at a policeman in Aston

How the violence developed throughout the first evening of rioting (August 8th)

Afternoon: Suggestions that Birmingham would be the next site of riots through Blackberry Messenger and Twitter.
7.30pm: Rioting begins in Birmingham. Police cordon off and guard Pallasades shopping centre, central Birmingham.
7:49pm: City centre branch of T-Mobile reported looted.
8:10pm: New Street Station and bus services halted. Reports around this time that taxis were also avoiding city centre.
8:49pm: First reports of disorder in Handsworth, Kings Heath.
9:02pm: Reported crowds at the Mailbox, city centre.
9:12pm: Broadway Plaza closed.
9:20pm: Attempts to saw off the head of the bull statue in the Bullring (unconfirmed).
9:22pm: Riot police take to streets.
9:24pm: Ambulances seen heading in to town. Later reports say 11 ambulances, 24 people injured.
9:25pm: Large crowd and police gather at Kings Heath. Sirens and helicopters reported in Digbeth.
9:26pm: Chinatown closed.
9:27pm: Reported attack on Tesco, Broad Street. House of Fraser, Foot Locker and Primark all reported as being looted.
9:52pm: Asda, Chelmsley Wood reported looted.
9:58pm: Police gather in force at Children’s Hospital, rioters diverted. Aston Expressway closed (inbound at A38 Aston Rd/A4540)
10:00pm: Newtown Middleway closed.
10:29pm: National Express coaches go no further than inner ring road.
10:30pm: Maplins reported looted.
10:53pm: Armani, Mailbox reported looted. Jessops reported looted.
12:05am: City centre reported as being generally “contained”
12:17am: Handworth Police station confirmed as being on fire.
12:22am: Bristol Road near Selly Oak Tesco and Tesco itself closed.

They should use water cannons on them, teach them a lesson. Partly caused by social deprivation, not helped by Tory cuts that aren’t fair or necessary, especially when they target poor people the worst. The economy would have continued growing and the debt would have been paid off over time, but now they’re destroying the economy that is causing even more cuts in a vicious circle that must be broken.

Do me favour!! It’s NOT political. It is criminal behaviour – nothing more and nothing less. Stop giving them justification for their actions. They are a product of their upbringing.

As for any cuts not being fair or necessary … life isn’t fair, and they are necessary because without them the Country will be struggling for decades to come. And how exactly do ‘they target poor people the worst’?

I understand the family of Mark Druggen wanting a peaceful protest for his death, but its the mindless thugs that has ruined it, now the rest of the thugs have joined in like sheep they follow. Bring damage and distruction to our country. Whilst men of similar ages are fighting and dying for this country !!! I would hate to be a troop member hearing that my countries scroungers are destroying the very country i am fighting for ! Send them to stand alongside our troops, they would soon realise what men do ! but off course we wont and why ? because of their human rights ! When they are disregarding our human rights of living safely within our own community !

Selfish bastards should be put in prison, no benefits or anything. Those too young to go into prison should be put on community service to clean up the shit they caused until they are old enough to be put in prison. There was no point in having a peaceful protest.They knew the outcome and they have achieved that.
